Olmecip contains olmesartan, the blood pressure medicine sold in the US as Benicar. The letters after the name tell you which second or third medicine has been added. Here’s how to decode the pack, what each ingredient does, and what to watch when you switch.
Decoder
A combination tablet has to match every ingredient on your prescription, not just the olmesartan dose. Check the exact split printed on your pack against what your prescriber wrote.
| Pack says | Contains | US reference brand | US reference strengths | Products |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Olmecip, Omlecip | Olmesartan medoxomil | Benicar | 5, 20, 40 mg | |
| Olmecip AM | Olmesartan + amlodipine | Azor | Amlodipine/olmesartan 5/20, 5/40, 10/20, 10/40 mg | |
| Olmecip H, Olmecip H 40 | Olmesartan + hydrochlorothiazide | Benicar HCT | Olmesartan/HCTZ 20/12.5, 40/12.5, 40/25 mg | |

What’s inside
An angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It stops a hormone from tightening blood vessels. Dizziness is common at first, and potassium can rise.
Rarely, it causes severe, long-lasting diarrhoea with weight loss months or years after starting. Tell your doctor if that happens. Glossary entry
A calcium-channel blocker that widens arteries. Ankle swelling is the most common side effect, along with flushing and headache.
A diuretic that helps the kidneys remove salt and water, so you’ll urinate more at first. It can lower potassium and sodium, raise blood sugar and uric acid, and trigger gout in some people.
Safety
Switching
An Olmecip H 40 is not interchangeable with a plain Olmecip 40. Use the decoder above.
If a combination tablet replaces separate pills, stop the separate ones only as your prescriber tells you.
Any consistent time works for olmesartan. Take H and Trio versions in the morning so the diuretic doesn’t wake you at night.
Take readings for a couple of weeks after switching and share them with your prescriber.
Kidney function and potassium, especially with the H and Trio versions.
Fainting, swollen ankles that don’t settle, or diarrhoea that won’t go away.

Olmecip contains olmesartan medoxomil, the active ingredient in Benicar. It is made for the Indian market, so it is not the licensed Benicar product in the US, UK or Australia. See Olmecip strengths.
H stands for hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic. Olmecip H matches Benicar HCT. AM means amlodipine has been added (like Azor), and Trio means both have been added (like Tribenzor). The medicine name decoder covers other suffixes.
Only with your prescriber’s agreement and at exactly the same ingredients and strengths. Check your blood pressure at home for a couple of weeks after switching.
Any time, as long as it’s the same time each day. Versions containing hydrochlorothiazide are best taken in the morning.
Rarely, olmesartan causes severe, chronic diarrhoea with weight loss, sometimes years after starting. It improves when the medicine is stopped, so tell your doctor if it happens.
No. Olmesartan can harm a developing baby. Contact your doctor as soon as you know you’re pregnant so they can switch you to a safer medicine.
Send us the medicine name and strength exactly as your prescriber wrote it, and we’ll tell you which brands we stock that match.
